Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Texas Fine Print collects on texasfineprint.com, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect what you type into our newsletter and contact forms, we use it to send you the newsletter and answer your messages, and we never sell it.

Information we collect

When you join the newsletter: your email address and, if you give it, your first name.

When you use the contact form: your name, email address, the topic you pick and your message.

Automatically, with either form: the page you submitted from, your IP address, your browser's user agent, the time of the submission, and a spam score from Google reCAPTCHA. We keep these to protect the forms from spam and abuse and to keep a record of your signup.

We don't ask for and don't want sensitive information like payment details, government ID numbers or health information. Please leave those out of contact messages.

How we use it

  • To send you the Texas Fine Print newsletter, if you signed up for it.
  • To read and reply to messages you send through the contact form.
  • To keep the site and its forms safe from spam, fraud and abuse.
  • To keep a record of when and where you agreed to receive email from us.

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it with anyone for their own marketing.

Services that help run the site

A few trusted providers handle information on our behalf, only to run the site and its email:

  • Google reCAPTCHA protects our forms from bots. It collects information about your device and how you use the page, and its use is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
  • Twilio SendGrid delivers our emails.
  • Our hosting and DNS providers, including Cloudflare, run the servers and network the site depends on.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of Texas Fine Print, our readers or others.

Cookies

Texas Fine Print doesn't use advertising cookies. Google reCAPTCHA may set cookies to tell people and bots apart. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but the forms may not work without reCAPTCHA.

Social media

When you follow or message Texas Fine Print on Facebook, Instagram or other platforms, that platform's own privacy policy covers what it collects. Links to those platforms open their sites, not ours.

How long we keep it

  • Newsletter: for as long as you're subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep your email address and the date you left so we don't email you again by mistake.
  • Contact messages: for as long as we need them to reply and keep a record of the conversation.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe anytime with the link at the bottom of every newsletter.
  • Ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by writing to us through the contact page. We'll respond within a reasonable time.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and restricted database access, to protect your information. No website or email system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise absolute security.

Children

Texas Fine Print is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update it on this page and change the “last updated” date at the top.
